Depression
Perhaps no psychiatric disorder leaves the victim more isolated than depression. The isolation results not only from depression's destructive effect on one's ability to enjoy life but also because of society's non-supportive view of depression. Many still wrongly believe that depression suggests inadequacy or the refusal of the victim to help themselves. Nothing could be further from the truth!
Major Depressive Disorder
Major Depressive Disorder, the precise term for so-called "clinical depression," is usually precipitated by a loss of some kind. The loss may be of a person or the failure of an expectation, hope or dream to materialize as planned. Major Depression, may leave the victim virtually disabled, feeling hopeless, hapless, and helpless. Fortunately, the majority of cases of depression can be effectively treated with antidepressant medication. If you have been suffering from depression for more than two weeks, you may have Major Depression. Other symptoms of major depression include changes in sleep and appetite, low energy, diminished concentration or memory, moving and thinking slower, agitation, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, and thoughts of death or suicide. There is no need to suffer when depression treatment is so readily available. Dr. Kline provides treatment for depression in Northern Kentucky. Depression CAN be treated effectively. Why don't you call us TODAY while you are thinking about it? We will help you!
Treatment-Resistant Depression
Some cases of depression are very difficult to treat. We call this "treatment resistant depression." Dr. Kline has been and continues to be a Principal Investigator in multiple studies on depression and treatment resistant depression. He has been successful in improving the mood of most patients with this more serious type of depression.
The majority of depressions are effectively treated with the first antidepressant trial. If after raising the dose of the antidepressant the depression persists or is inadequately treated, a second antidepressant is either added to or replaces the first one. If the depression continues despite two antidepressants, the depression is termed "treatment-resistant." This determination should always be followed by referral to a psychiatrist for definitive treatment.
Stubborn depressions ARE usually treatable. Never, never just give up. Dr. Kline is an expert in the treatment of such depressions and has conducted multiple clinical drug trials for Treatment-Resistant Depression.
Dysthymia & Double Depression
Untreated depressions often have inadequate resolution, becoming chronic smoldering depressions called Dysthymia. This milder form of depression becomes the affected individual's new baseline mood state. When another major depressive episode begins, it is often called double depression. Double depression usually requires higher doses of antidepressant medication.
What should you do, now?
We now understand that lifestyle, including quality of supportive relationships and diet, have a critical influence on depression. Smoking, alcohol use, and drug use are also risk factors for depression. They also make it unlikely that your treatment will be as successful. Consuming animal products promotes chronic disease, including depression. In fact, most of the deaths from chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease, many cancers, and diabetes are preventable with a healthy lifestyle.
Everyone with Major Depression should be treated, and the majority can expect a full recovery from their current episode. If the above descriptions sound like your illness, why don't you call us now while you are on this website.
